CAPTURING THE MAGICAL CHARM OF SHELIA WOFFORD
For more than 20 years, actress Shelia Wofford has worked to mesmerize audiences nationwide with her talent, and when we were in search of the perfect actress to capture the true soulfulness of our Medicine Woman working a little magic, Wofford was the only person who fit the part.
With her eloquent movements and her desire to bring the character to life just as Director Rick DeWitt envisioned, she was able to bring such sustenance to the film and we simply cannot wait until our fans see her in action.
Our internal PR gal Angela Caito had the privilege to sit down with Shelia Wofford a few weeks ago during a chilly evening shoot at Fort Sanders in Knoxville, Tennessee where Wofford took time to open up to Angela about her character and her life beyond the wilderness.
Wofford has been married for 28 years and together, she and her husband Sam have a 23-year old son, Trey. Shelia said that her family has been her biggest fan club over the years and through their love and support, this star has been able to shine bright. Even as a child, she would do little acts around her house from scenes that she watched on shows like Good Times, and she said,
“My mother knew even back then that I was going to be an actress.”
She said that her mother always said she had a big imagination, she was creative with dance and she had the charisma to be able to reach the very soul of people who saw her perform.
She said she first heard about the Into the Wilderness movie when her agents at Talent Trek Agency in Knoxville contacted her to see if she wanted to audition, Thankfully for the movie, she chose to do so!
When asked what she enjoyed the most about acting, Wofford responded with,
“I love that I feel like God enters me and just gives me this voice to be able to speak the words and tell the full truth of the character I’m portraying so that I can connect with the audience.”
As the Medicine Woman in Into the Wilderness, Wofford needed to be able to lose herself a little to be able to come across as this entrancing, magical woman. She said that she loves to be pushed to new heights and that with the accent as well as the portrayal of a women who was seemingly immersed in magic and healing, she was pushed hard to bring the character to life.
We can honestly say that Wofford’s portrayal of the Medicine Woman is one that fans will not soon forget once they see the finished movie.
Wofford has a long history of performing in television shows as well as film and you may have seen her in shows like Fatal Attraction, Snapped, Drop Dead Diva or Meet the Browns. Her latest show, Messiah, will debut on Netflix in 2019 and stars actors including Mehdi Dehbi (London Has Fallen, A Most Wanted Man) and Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Source Code).
Wofford also owns her own production company, Live to Inspire Productions, and has a film (The Good Son) set to begin shooting in February 2019. Wofford has several films that she produced that are available on DVD including Michael Valentine which won “Best of the Festival Short Film Award” at the Inspired Faith Film Festival and her film Treasure, which won the Best Independence Short Films of 2017 Spotlight Bronze Award from Spotlight Film Awards.
Wofford says that she spends her time constantly writing, performing or training and with her incredible talent as an actor, writer and film Director, this is a star that everyone should get to know.
