SITTING DOWN WITH CHRISTOPHER-LAWSON PALMER
A few weeks ago, the wilderness movie team introduced you to one of the lead actors, Christopher-Lawson Palmer, the amazing young man who plays Jeremiah in Into the Wilderness. When working long hours on set practically every day, it’s difficult to be able to sit down and hold a conversation that isn’t focused on the scene the actors are filming at the moment or trying to figure out the best angle for cameras and other equipment to film everything just right.
Thankfully, a little time was made between scenes during a recent shoot and I was able to spend a few moments talking to Christopher-Lawson Palmer to find out a little more about him and how he feels about the movie. He has been working side by side with actor Shuler Hensley, so of course everyone wants to know what Palmer thinks about working with him. He told me that he loves working with Shuler and that even with working long days, he is having so much fun acting in the movie.
While talking to Christopher-Lawson Palmer, there is a thick smell of smoke in the air and you can definitely see a haze lingering throughout the wooded area from the gunpowder used to fire the Civil War era guns used in the battle scene currently filming and for the last few days those working on the film have heard consistent gun fire as well as cannon fire throughout the day each day. Palmer says the noise from the guns is fun to hear. It’s exciting!
You might notice that Christopher-Lawson Palmer has his signature straw hat on in many of the photos that have been posted of him during filming. He wears this hat all day, every day during filming and cast and crew have seen him many times off set walking around with it on. When asked what he thought about the hat, Palmer responded with,
“In the beginning, the hat was awesome! It got wet when we were filming in the rain though and now, it’s probably the worst part of my wardrobe because it’s not comfortable at all anymore.”
He is definitely a trooper for being able to wear wardrobe that is wet, scratchy and not at all comfortable and he does so without letting on to anyone at all how uncomfortable his clothing on set can be from one day to the next. However, even with the discomfort of the wet straw hat, he did mention to us that he has had a blast being able to film with animals on set. There have been horses as well as donkeys and Palmer said he had a lot of fun being able to be around them, especially the donkeys.
Christopher-Lawson Palmer will have a chance to not only work with talented actors who have starred in a wide array of popular movies over the years, but in this film, he also has a chance to work with his older sister, actress Saiya Palmer. Saiya has been cast to play a principle role in the film and Christopher-Lawson Palmer had this to say about working with his big sister, “Saiya is a really good actor and she usually likes to work alone. We’re both happy about working together on Into the Wilderness though.” It will be great to see the brother and sister acting duo work together as they are both very talented.
Palmer is not just a talented actor, but he is also an amazing opera singer who was invited to travel to England in 2019 to sing with the opera and he has also performed in several plays at the Knoxville Children’s Theatre, the Tennessee Theatre and several other playhouses in the state.
It was nice to sit down and chat with Christopher-Lawson Palmer and I personally predict that this young man is going to go far in life whether it is with acting, singing or even if he chooses to become a doctor or chase another dream along the way. There is no doubt that he is going work hard to make every dream he has come true.
